Phoenix Arizona has become a very popular destination for those seeking 55+ communities partly because of the approximately 350 days of sunshine each year.  For those coming to Arizona from cold climates where you have been shoving snow in the winter, you won’t find the need to shovel sunshine here! There is a lot to enjoy.

Most of the active adult and 55+ retirement communities in the Phoenix Arizona area are not actually in Phoenix. You will find them in suburb areas. Most of the 55+ active adult retirement communities in the Phoenix are are primarily concentrated in two general areas, the West/Northwest Valley and the South/Southeast Valley. It is estimated there are more than 100,000 households in 55+ age-restricted retirement communities in Phoenix, Arizona.

Some communities are larger and some smaller. A common theme with them all is there are many activities that a resident can decide to participate in – or not. There are activities ranging from cards, sewing, crafts, woodworking, sports, and more. Many of the communities have a lineup of entertainment that comes to the community center— ranging from singers, comedy acts, and dancing and more.

If golf is your passion, you will find that many of the communities have golf courses – and some of them have several. Most of the communities have a clubhouse that is sort of the hub of activity. It would be had to find a community that did not have a community swimming pools (some have several pools), fitness centers and hobby and craft studios, computer centers with high speed wi-fi, and more.

With the wide range of activities and amenities, the communities are all a part of their own Home Owner’s Association groups, which manages and governs things to keep things organized and operating. Home owners Association fees vary from community to community.

Many of the communities have a range of home types, from single family, to “Gemini” homes (two homes attached) or town-homes and condos. Some communities have homes that are priced in the low $200’s to other areas where you will find homes priced in excess of $1 million. Something for most budgets can be located.
