If you live in Arizona, or are thinking about visiting Arizona in August, here is something unique to check into. Are looking for a different sort of “Girlfriends Getaway” weekend in August — maybe a chance to canoe, fish, rappel, shoot a pistol — or learn to cook with a Dutch oven over an open fire? Want to be a more competent, more confident, camper or day-hiker? Dozens of classes are taught at the “Becoming an Arizona outdoors
Woman” weekend August 14-16 at Camp Friendly Pines near Prescott Arizona.
Enrollment for the weekend is $240.00. This includes meals and cabin lodging. Participants say the weekends offer a welcome chance to learn outdoors skills with other women, and from a mostly female staff. These popular camps introduce women to the outdoors by teaching camping, survival and general outdoor recreation skills in a supportive manner. BOW weekends have earned a reputation for quality: meals, gear and lodging in the rustic cabins are all provided — and the camps offer a place to meet new friends and future hiking or camping partners. Good food — a “pricky pear margaritas” opening mixer — and evening entertainment, too!
Enrollment is open to women age 18 and up,registration is $240 for the entire weekend (including meals and cabin lodging!). Early reservations are suggested. Convenient online registration can be made at
www.azwildlife.org For other details call 480-644-0077 or contact event coordinator Linda Dightmon at 623-979-4612.
BOW is sponsored by Arizona Wildlife Federation (AWF) in partnership with the Phoenix Chapter of the Safari Club and also the Arizona Game and Fish Department. The first BOW clinic was conducted in Wisconsin in September 1991. The Arizona workshop is part of the same curriculum and each workshop is organized with the aid of the Safari Club International of Phoenix and the Arizona Game and Fish Department. The
National Wildlife Federation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation are just two of BOW’s national supporters.
