Apache Junction is a city in two counties — parts of the city are in each of Maricopa and Pinal Counties. The majority of the city is in Pinal County.

Apache Junction is at the base of the Superstition Mountain. It is located about  just 35 miles east of the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport, but only about 10-15 minutes from Williams Gateway. The Superstition Wilderness area is nearby. It’s location offers closeness to city amenities but a feeling of the western outdoors, complete with desert wildlife.

The  year-round resident population of about 42,000 increases to about 77,000 people when winter visitors begin arriving in mid-October. The “snow-birds” stay until spring and leave about April. There are many golf areas nearby. Apache Junction is a favorite for many retirees and snow birds escaping the winter cold in of the Midwest and Canada.
